Play of the day: Luis Suarez saves the day

FIFA has banned Uruguay forward Luis Suarez for one match for his deliberate handball to deny Ghana a winning goal in their World Cup quarterfinal match.

FIFA’s disciplinary committee has ruled that Suarez was guilty of “denying the opposite team a clear goal-scoring opportunity” and imposed just a one-match suspension.

Suarez will serve the ban when Uruguay meets the Netherlands in the semifinals on Tuesday, and would be available for the final if his team advances.

After Suarez’s handball in the last minute of extra time at Soccer City on Friday, Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan missed the ensuing penalty kick and time ran out with the score tied at 1-1. Uruguay won the penalty shootout that followed, 4-2, to advance.

Suarez’s actions spurred debate about whether he should be given a more stern penalty.

Jackson back to Lakers to try the three-peat

LOS ANGELES -- The idea of his fourth three-peat must have been too much for Phil Jackson to pass up.

The Los Angeles Lakers coach told the team Thursday that he will return for his 11th season on the bench in L.A. and an even 20th to cap his NBA coaching career.

"Count me in," Jackson said in a statement. "After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It'll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one."

Analyst Ric Bucher says he is not completely sold on the idea that LeBron James is leaving Cleveland. Plus, Bucher talks about Phil Jackson returning to coach the Lakers for one more season.

Jackson had told the Lakers he needed to address health concerns before committing to another season. His right knee has been bothering him for some time.

Jackson received a clean bill of health early this week after going through a series of examinations to check out both surgically replaced hips; his heart that had a stent placed in it during the 2003 playoffs; kidney stones that had bothered him this season; and his troublesome right knee that caused him to start regularly wearing a knee brace for support.

Jackson had been weighing whether to have knee-replacement surgery this summer, but he's likely to defer that until next summer at the earliest.

"Everything [with his health] is good," Jackson's agent, Todd Musburger, said in a telephone interview Thursday. "That was of course a big part of the process that he wanted to go through before making a decision as to whether or not he should return to coaching or retire."

Jackson, who turns 65 in September, is a member of the Hall of Fame who has led the Lakers and Chicago Bulls to 11 championships, the most of any coach. The Lakers have won the last two after winning three in a row from 2000 to '02. The Michael Jordan-led Bulls won titles in 1991-93 and 1996-98 with Jackson at the helm.

Jackson
"We're extremely pleased that Phil has decided to return," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "With this most recent championship, we've now won five titles in the 10 years he's been our head coach and have been to the Finals in seven of those 10 years, which is amazing. He's not only the best coach for this team, but quite simply the best coach in the history of the NBA."

Jackson's contract terms for next season were not immediately available, but one source close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Jackson knew and accepted the basic parameters Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss has in mind before Jackson returned to his offseason home in Montana.

Multiple reports have stated Jackson will take a pay cut this season, but Jackson admitted, "It's still a ridiculous salary, whatever it is," when asked about the projected figure during the Western Conference finals in May.

According to Lakers sources, the terms of a new deal have not been formally agreed upon, but both sides said a one-year deal would be reached quickly. At the end of the deal, if Jackson changed his mind and wanted to return, the Lakers would again be open to that possibility.

"We expect that to go smoothly at the right time for the Lakers office and for us," Musburger said. "We'll get at it."

Once Phil Jackson got a clean bill of health, the competitor had no choice but to return to the Lakers, writes Arash Markazi. Story

Land O' Lakers: What this means

Jackson, who said last week he was "leaning towards retiring" just a day after Sports Illustrated quoted his daughter Chelsea as saying, "I think this is it. I think he's done now," in a cover story about the Lakers' Finals victory against the Boston Celtics, has become reinvigorated in recent days when removed from the daily pressure of his occupation.

"He sounds extremely pleased with what he's decided and he's already looking forward to next season," Musburger said. "Truthfully, Phil does enjoy what he does. We all know how stressful it must be, we can only empathize with that. The stress is high, the pressure is great. When you manage the Yankees or coach the Lakers or you're the soccer coach for England, there are expectations and winning is not good enough, you have to win the championship.

"Phil obviously has some real gifts for what he does. He loves it. The game is of course a huge part of his life. I don't expect any change in his intensity, or his focus, or his desire. He loves being a part of the action. He's had tremendous success. He really enjoys his fellow coaches. They're very important to him. And he obviously enjoys the club that he has and he looks forward to saddling up again."

Various members of the Lakers organization shared in Jackson's joy.

"I'm happy, I'm glad," said Craig Hodges, Lakers special assistant coach. "It's a chance to make some history."

Free agent Shannon Brown, in the midst of contract negotiations with the Lakers himself, said, "I'm excited and happy for him!!!" in a text message to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Ron Artest posted a message to his Twitter feed that said, "Thank You Phil Love you man!!!!! Let's get it LA."

Jackson's girlfriend and Lakers executive Jeanie Buss, a Twitter regular, tweeted earlier in the week that she remained "optimistic" about him returning to coach.

"I knew it was getting close when Phil asked me if Doc was coming back (he doesn't watch too much TV in MT)," Buss wrote, referring to Celtics coach Doc Rivers, who made it official he was returning to Boston on Wednesday.

While Jackson is calling 2010-11 his "last stand," he's been known to bend the definition of the word "last" in the past. In 1997-98, he bonded the Bulls with the theme of looking at the season as the "Last Dance." In October of 2004, Jackson released a book called "The Last Season," in which he documented a turbulent '03-04 campaign with the Lakers that ended with a Finals loss to the Pistons, leading to a dismantling of the team and the second retirement of Jackson's coaching career.

East Coast rivalry: Jay-Z sues David Ortiz over nightclub name

Did Big Papi just pull off a big copy?
That's what rapper and noted Yankee fan Jay-Z is contending after he and a business partner filed a lawsuit against the Boston Red Sox star on Thursday.
Jigga's beef? Ortiz opened a nightclub in Santo Domingo in his native Dominican Republic and named it "Forty-Forty."
Jay-Z thinks that's a sample that's too close to his line of "sports lounges" which carry the "40/40 Club" name ... no matter if Ortiz is spelling out the digits in order to be different.
Reuters has more:
"Jay-Z and Juan Perez(notes) own 40/40 Clubs in New York City, Atlantic City and Las Vegas and have plans to open further venues in Tokyo and Macau.
"They have accused Ortiz of trading on the fame, value and goodwill of their name through his club Forty/Forty and its website, www.fortyforty.net, which they say has caused their business 'marketplace confusion and damage,' the lawsuit said.
"'David Ortiz(notes) is fully aware of plaintiff's Manhattan 40/40 Club, since he had been a patron there on several occasions long before he opened his infringing Forty/Forty Club,' said the lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court.
According to the 40/40 Club website, Jay-Z picked the name for his club because "the 40/40 club in baseball is as exclusive as it gets." But as Fanhouse's Tom Fornelli points out, Ortiz has never had a 40 homer, 40 steal season so it doesn't make sense for him to rip off the name — no matter how much he likes the food.
[Video: See Jay-Z's new single with a classic '80s twist.]
Thanks to Papi's lapse in creativity, this has to qualify as one of the strangest instances of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry. Not that Ortiz's performance can fall any further — he's hitting .154 with 13 strikeouts in 26 at-bats this season — but dragging a Red Sox rival into court is one heck of a great mind game from a Yankees fan.
Wonder what Jay-Z's path would have been if it was A-Rod who did the same thing?

Weezy anounces release of "Tha Carter IV"

Wayne mentioned the possibility of this album as early as September 2008. He began recording this album in early October 2008, but later that month he claimed that he did not want this to follow Tha Carter III immediately. In early 2009, Wayne changed his position; he stated that he will release this album in 2009, the same year as his rock album Rebirth, around the end of the year. Production duo Play-N-Skillz has been tapped to contribute production. Birdman stated that Tha Carter IV will be packaged with Rebirth as a double disc album. However, Wayne denied this idea saying that "Tha Carter IV deserves Tha Carter IV". After several rumors stating that the album would be released in 2009, Wayne told Billboard that the album would be released in 2010. However, due to Wayne's current jail sentence, he stated that the album would be released in 2011 shortly after his release. It has been reported that he has completed 20 songs for the album. Two music videos for unknown songs were shot in February 2010 and have been confirmed to be on Tha Carter IV.

Kentucky lands a pair of No. 1 recruits on the same day!! DAMN

It has been a foregone conclusion for weeks that Gatorade national player of the year Brandon Knight would don a Kentucky cap when he announced his college choice on the first day of the spring signing period.
The timing of highly touted junior Michael Gilchrist's commitment, however, is a far bigger surprise.
By persuading both Rivals.com's top-ranked recruits in the class of 2010 and 2011 to pledge to Kentucky in nationally televised announcements on the very same day, Wildcats coach John Calipari has pulled off a basketball and PR masterstroke.
On the court, Kentucky adds two potential cornerstones of future title runs. Off of it, the Wildcats' Elite Eight loss to West Virginia and the likely departure of five NBA-bound underclassmen suddenly become old news, replaced by a celebration of the imminent arrival of the program's next two stars.
Knight, a 6-foot-3 point guard who averaged 31.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game for Pine Crest High School in Florida, chose Kentucky over Kansas, Syracuse, UConn and Florida. Gilchrist, a 6-foot-6 wing from Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick High School, spurned Villanova and Oregon, following through on a promise he made as early as eighth grade to attend college wherever Calipari was coaching.
"I like Coach Cal a lot, I like his staff and i like the fans there are lot," Gilchrist said. "They have a lot of energy. It's really crazy there."
Although it's certainly possible that Kentucky's incoming class won't immediately elevate the Wildcats to the heights that John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins did, it's also hard to imagine the program slipping too far. Adding Knight to a 2010 class that already includes highly touted Turkish big man Enes Kanter and forward Stacey Poole gives Kentucky three potential immediate contributors for next season, while Gilchrist provides the foundation for 2011.
Knight made his announcement Wednesday in a packed auditorium at Pine Crest. Asked which school he was selecting, the 6-foot-3 point guard paused for dramatic effect, reached into a bag underneath the table and donned a blue UK hat to a thunderous ovation from his classmates.
"I felt it was the place that had great players, great environment and just a place where I can elevate my game," Knight said. "It came down to being comfortable there when I went on my visit and feeling I could get better at Kentucky."
[Video: Dunk contest goes hilariously wrong.]
It's easy to see why Knight would be enamored with Kentucky considering Calipari's track record with elite point guards in recent years. Derrick Rose is an NBA all-star, Tyreke Evans is the favorite for rookie of the year and Wall is the leading contender to be selected No. 1 in the draft.
Then again, Knight is no lock to be one and done — whether his play next season warrants it or not. The gifted student reportedly has a 4.3 GPA and has yet to receive anything less than an A in high school.
Kentucky is still involved with a handful of other elite unsigned recruits in the class of 2010 including guard Josh Selby and forwards Terrence Jones and C.J. Leslie, so Knight will do his part to recruit them.
"There's a lot of great players out there," he said. "Whoever wants to come, I'm going to try to get them to come."

Line of the day

I'm fresh I'm fly I'm always high

Don't tell Kobe Bryant what he can't do (Video Below)

There are a few hard and fast rules to consider when watching Kobe Bryant(notes) play basketball.
First, just assume anything is within the realm of possibility for Kobe when he's on the court. That way, when he does something unbelievable you don't go in to cardiac arrest. You should also probably know that nine out of 10 times, Kobe is taking the game's last shot. Of those nine shots, probably four of them are going in, even if they seem like a terrible look. Just be prepared.
And probably the most important, especially if you happen to be a broadcaster, never tell Kobe Bryant he can't do something because he'll make you look silly on national television.
Sorry, Jeff Van Gundy. Apparently you forgot Kobe trained with Hakeem Olajuwon before this season and learned a whole bunch of post moves. As such, you violated the third rule, and therefore had to pay the consequences. There's a reason I have these made up rules — they're for your protection.
I guess one way to deal with a nagging right finger injury is to add a left-handed hook shot in your 13th NBA season. Between that and his penchant for lefty buzzer beaters, eventually Kobe won't even need that right hand. Maybe he can donate it to the Gatorade Sports Science Institute for testing or cloning purposes.

Verse of the day:

"This is your life and you're in school to get right"
"Nah, music is my sun and you blocking my light".

(Highly Recomended) I Hate College (Remix) - Sam Adams [Lyrics Below]

i hate college but love all the parties
finishing kegs and crushing bottles of bacardi
king or the class, id rather lay up with a hottie
single doesnt mean im looking for somebody
some say a drink blaze up a hardly
puffin' PK, ski a little bit of mali
am i out my mind most people say probably
but ive been on my grind puffin' nugs of that cali, collie

pack my bag no parents didn't drop me off
i felt lost saw some herbs all wearin lacoste
couple dudes in pinnies musta played lacrosse
grabbed my duffle and i hustled through the dormitory doors
of course my homie lived on the same floor
soon to blow trees and down to pound coors
down to pound whores, out of time though
flow the better up to the whole town oooh

i hate college but love getting laid
socialite swagga at night when the sun fades
check my sun shades talking about upgrades
i cant see the haters no more i feel great
my eyes 20/20 so sunny when skies gray
im loved by the hunnies what more can i say
im just getting paid working like a slave
between school athletics and music its all day

so invite your friends to come play
gave you the invite if you miss it dont complain
if you lucky get a kiss but miss no thats lame
wanna get it in with wizzy, im your man
sweating bullets no fan can contain
short to pull it, but quick to amaze
im looking forward to tours in these planes
seeing the cork popping from bottles of champagne
dear lord taking your name in vain
all these sins in college i made
well well my games off the chain
i last a couple hours tomorrow go insane

i hate college but love all the parties
finishing kegs and crushing bottles of bacardi
king or the class, id rather lay up with a hottie
single doesnt mean im looking for somebody
some say a drink blaze up a hardly
puffin' PK, ski a little bit of mali
am i out my mind most people say probably
but ive been on my grind puffin' nugs of that cali, collie

some say a drink blaze up a hardly
puffin' PK, ski a little bit of mali
am i out my mind most people say probably
but ive been on my grind puffin' nugs of that cali, collie

i cant sleep cause my god damn teach keeps assigning essays
due at the end of each week
but little do they know i got a show by the beach
watching girls flash wizzy way more than their teeth
they mad id rather learn flows than their lesson plans
but sit me down asking do you get the message sam
this is your life and you're in school to get right
nah, music is my sun and you blocking my light
and if i dont blow get high and ignite
my life full of lines so my money gets nice
well money's not happiness, you'll only get greedier
but shit it'd make life a whole lot easier
and my field gets a whole lot cheesier
dominos bread but still getting meatier

but schools good for one thing i must add
and thats having a plethora of my vocab
whole bags of verbs that i must grab
and throw down like a rich girls bar tab

i hate college but love all the parties
finishing kegs and crushing bottles of bacardi
king or the class, id rather lay up with a hottie
single doesnt mean im looking for somebody
